Every Archingreen project has a story, and this one, perhaps more than any other, is a tale of transformation. It began with a single-family home where only the first floor was habitable, while the ground floor housed an unlivable and unhealthy space. This was our starting point, a chrysalis, the shell of a radical transformation in which the house found new life. Thanks to this project, where there were once uninhabitable spaces, there is now a new home, with a floor area nearly doubled, that live, that welcomes and expands, where every corner has been carefully rethought and designed to be filled with light by those who inhabit it. This metamorphosis, the true protagonist of our story, continues to unfold every day.
Transforming without overhauling
Originally, the first floor of this building was an apartment of about 60 sqm. The ground floor, however, was only a large, dark, and damp garage due to small facade windows and poor ventilation of the ambience. Our work went beyond a simple extension: we completely redistributed the internal spaces and slightly expanded the building’s external structure, all while respecting its original characteristics. The exterior facades were redesigned with new openings to provide great light and airiness to the interior spaces, while we integrated the previously external staircase into the building’s interior, connecting the two floors. In particular, the portion of the building that now houses the staircase was enhanced with a large window that covers almost its entire height, creating a blade of light that illuminates the interiors and gives them a new vitality.
